Aug. 21 and 22. Summer Flavors Festival. The Meadows area of Piedmont Park will be the venue for summer foods, music and more at the Summer Flavors Festival starting at 11 a.m. The event, at 10th Street and Monroe Avenue, downtown, will feature cooking demonstrations from a number of Atlanta restaurants and caterers; a children’s area; a fitness and wellness pavilion; a merchandise walk and a music stage of local and national acts. Admission to festival is free to the public. Tickets for food may be purchased at the event. Some proceeds benefit diabetes awareness and treatment. Screening for diabetes will be provided onsite. Aug. 29. Rainbow Tea. Alternative Solutions for Adolescents with Preventive Interventions, Incorporated (A.S.A.P) will be hosting its first Rainbow Tea 1 - 4 p.m. at the Lou Walker Senior Citizens Facility. Kenisha Thomas Randall founded A.S.A.P in 2004 as a service for adolescents with focus on women and children. The funds raised will go toward monthly workshops, three college tours, and a spring 2011 Washington D.C. tour. September 11, 2010 4th Annual Walk of HEROes 5K Walk of HEROes event includes a 5K Run/Walk, Tot Trot, and Community Hero Fun Day. Your participation helps those with developmental disabilities, substance addictions, and mental health illnesses served by the DeKalb Community Service Board. Oct. 2. Entrepreneurial and Small Business Owners 2010 Vendor EXPO. This event will feature mini workshops, mass networking opportunities and all day shopping with community vendors at Occasions Event Center,

Bereavement support group.Those who have lost a loved one are invited to join this new support group facilitated by Hospice Atlanta’s Chaplain, Daphne Clement, D. Peer to peer is a learning program for people with mental illness. It consists of nine two-hour units taught weekly by a team of three trained mentors who are personally experienced with mental illness. Participants come away from the course with a binder of materials and other resources. The class and materials are provided free of charge.
