Officer arrested on child molestation charges

Quevius O. Thornton

A DeKalb County Police officer was arrested Jan. 4 in connection with allegations of sexual misconduct against a 15-year-old female.

Quevius O. Thornton, 29, was arrested and charged with two counts of statutory rape, one count of aggravated child molestation and one count of child molestation. Thornton is being held in the DeKalb County Jail.

The investigation began after information was brought to the attention of the police department earlier this week, according to police spokesman Jason Gagnon.

“Once these allegations were brought to light swift action was taken,” said Police Chief William O’Brien. “This type of officer misconduct is inexcusable. It’s inherent in order to maintain the public’s trust that our officers serve with great character and honor.”

Thornton, who joined the department in 2008, has been placed on administrative leave pending termination.

I personally know him and to AngelL he is not that person. My husband works for Dekalb Police Department and being a wife they are the most chased cause they are cops. I don't believe this at all but if its proven he did it proven but until then no he is a really good person and I truly believe that this was a set up. I just want people to know and understand before they comment and make stupid opinions about him cause u never know what she might have told him to mislead him so find out the facts before u state your judgements

Let us hope that the Police were not protecting their own and overlooking the actions of this low life ! Our Officers should be Models of Good Moral Charactor not "known for liking young girls" ?

Very important for us to work together in protecting children, even if we do not have children. We got to get better at protecting OUR little ones. It's damaging in a number of ways to us as a whole...one major damage is the effect on a child that could possibly last a life time and the raising up of maybe another molestor...staggering that this is rampant nationally...WE got to stop this now! First, by speaking the same language when we say child molestor and agreeing on the age that identifies a child.

Sad to say, this fallen officer and every other one like him is just a small fish in a superstretched pond. There are approximately three million child victims according to the Child Molestation Research & Prevention Institute and 1 in 30 molestors. And many people are blind to the fact that a child within their own home may be a victim. National statistics say 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys are likely to be sexually abused by their 18th birthday (Darkness to Light).

Sex specific therapist should be employed for all personnel in government positions. We need to know as much about these people who are leading, serving, and protecting as much as possible....not like that really matter much...unless a progressive grass root take charge...but this I do agree...fits [sleezy]... and there are tests out there can point out this sleezy character in individuals...

We should push for this demand, especially for people who are working with children...email me: leneanpriester@yahoo.com. I am Lenean Priester!

Tell us Chief OBrien, is it proper for Uniformed DeKalb County Police Officers to be in Sleezy Bars surrounded by Video Poker Machines having a free lunch ?
Tell us Public Safety Director Miller, is it proper for Uniformed DeKalb County Police Officers to be in Sleezy Bars surrounded by Video Poker Machines having a free lunch ?
This practice is nothing less than a disgrace, those Officers involved cheapen the Badge that they wear. What happened to Protect and Serve ?
If you as a Citizen have wondered why there are so many Video Poker Machines all over South DeKalb, now you know !

for the record some of us dont have spell check, so sue me! my point was that i find it interesting that the women commenting on this are ready to hand this man by his balls for the allegations brought agaist him without proper adjudication. could this be the gender biased double standard that most surely exists in our society?? had this been a female officer accused of improper conduct with a 15 yr old male i bet most of your women would'nt want officer sally to have her twat cut off. DEFINATELY A DOUBLE STANDARD!!!!!!!!

Sadly, this sort of thing happens. The police department draws both the best and the worst of society and cannot seem to differentiate the two. Regardless, the role of police officers is to defend the public. The first and second commentators both have points (although they seem to lack Spell Check). The officer in question should not be judged publicly before his trial. It is a sad fact of life that false accusations are all too common. However, it is to be hoped that Dekalb Co. would not charge a man without some sort of evidence, regardless of the accusation. It is also a sad fact that far too many people in authority abuse their offices at all levels.

Please allow this man the benefit of the doubt, until such time as he is proven guilty. If he is guilty, there is really no punishment sufficient to the crime of abusing a child.

first off this is an allegation from a 15 yr old female who may or may not be telling the truth. the above comment already convicts and condems the accused without proper judication. how do we know that the 15 yr old wasnt caught doing something unlawful by the officer and then offered herself sexually to the officer him to let her go. when he refused then she pulled the rape cat out of the bad?????. just because you are accused doesnt mean you are guilty. so i will reserve my judgement until more facts are revealed.

It is ridiculous how some of these suppose-to-be law abiding police officers join and swear an oath to protect the public. When in fact the largest percent of them have low morale, never has been respected by others, been abused and neglected all their lives and now they try to earn respect they never had by joining the police department. The badge brings their morales and self-esteem up to a level where they now look down on the public who they are not only suppose to protect, but also respect and uses their power because they believe no one else is greater than they are.
Evidently they are not getting good training in morals and if they are they definitely don't know how to use it. I am not surprised of the so=many incidents and misconducts I read about officers of the law.
Most of them are using their so-called power for the wrong reason and will evidently land in jail or someone will send them to hell just like the rest of the bad criminals. I am not surprised at all!!!! I read about them every week.
