Police make arrest in Briarcliff Road rapes

A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a series of rapes along Briarcliff Road in the Druid Hills area, according to DeKalb County Police spokesman Jason Gagnon.

Jordan Anthony Gibson has been charged with two counts of rape after his DNA was a positive match in two of the cases. Police said they believe the rapes happened during the early months of 2009.

Gibson became a suspect after he was pulled over for a traffic violation along Briarcliff Road on April 11, 2009. Stolen property from the rape victims was found inside the car, according to Gagnon, and Gibson was charged with several counts of theft and robbery. Gibson also was considered a person of interest in most of the rape and sexual assault cases in the Druid Hills area, police said.

The investigation remains open as police said Gibson also may responsible for other sexual assaults in the area during the early part of 2009.
