Carter takes state Senate District 42 in landslide

Jason Carter

Jason Carter – grandson of former President Jimmy Carter – won the state Senate District 42 seat on May 11.

Carter, an Atlanta attorney, won 5,559 votes or about 66 percent of the vote to take the seat, according to preliminary state returns. Tom Stubbs, another Democratic attorney, won 1,948 votes or 23 percent of the vote.

Libertarian David Montane took third with 635 votes or about 8 percent, and Steve Patrick, an independent, earned 327 votes or about 4 percent of the vote.

The district includes Decatur and a portion of Atlanta.
