Officers investigated for handling of warrants against county commissioner

DeKalb County Police is investigating the way it handled an incident involving outstanding warrants against county commissioner Sharon Barnes-Sutton, county spokeswoman Sheila Edwards said.

Barnes-Sutton was involved in a minor traffic accident on Wednesday, Jan. 20. When police ran Barnes-Sutton’s identification through the Georgia Crime Information Center database, it was discovered that there were four outstanding warrants issued a year ago out of Gwinnett County for bad checks.

Officers on the scene of the accident advised Barnes-Sutton to go directly to the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office to resolve the matter and did not notify the sheriff’s office.

The investigation is ongoing and could be wrapped up by the end of the week, Edwards said. None of the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, she said.

Meanwhile, Barnes-Sutton went to the merchant the next day, Jan. 21, and paid the amount due, according to a spokeswoman at Gwinnett County Magistrate Court. The four checks totaled $1,270.37. After payment was received, the warrants were recalled, the court official said.

It's amazing how selective Dekalb County can be when it comes to confronting people of power and influence who break the law, by allowing them to escape penalties that others cannot? I can recall a situation that happened 3 months ago where 2 young female college students were attacked by 3 known assailants, while sitting on their porch at their home.. The attackers actually drove their cars right on the property, nearly running one of them down and assualted the students with broken bottles. The victims fought back in self-defense. The D.C.police were called but the assailants were gone by the time they arrived on the scene.Shockingly, 1 month later,Decatur police came with an arrest warrant, and took the students to Dekalb County jail for "fighting and disturbing the peace",WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE!!. It took nearly 2 days to bond them out for fighting in defense of their own life, the police locked up the VICTIMS!!
