County partners with nonprofits to help with foreclosures
DeKalb County has approved contracts with two non-profit organizations that specialize in providing affordable housing for low- to moderate-income families, according to CEO Burrell Ellis. A $225,000 contract with Neighborhood Works and a $350,000 contract with The Alliance of DeKalb County were approved May 22.
Both organizations satisfy requirements set forth by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as Community Housing Development Organizations and will use the funds to acquire and rehabilitate foreclosed properties in DeKalb County.
Transportation town hall meeting planned
A town hall meeting to discuss the Transportation Investment Act (TIA) will be held May 24, 6-8 p.m., at Tucker High School. The event is sponsored by county commissioners Stan Watson and Elaine Boyer. Speakers include Douglas Hooker, executive director of the Atlanta Region Commission, and Wendy Butler, a member of the MARTA Board of Directors. Attendees will have an opportunity to speak and ask questions. The school is located at 5036 LaVista Road in Tucker.
Low-income families to get rental assistance
DeKalb County has entered into an agreement with Nicholas House Inc., to provide rental assistance to low-income DeKalb families, according to CEO Burrell Ellis.
The contract provides $250,970 to administer a tenant-based rental assistance program, which will help DeKalb County residents who qualify with rental assistance, security and utility deposits. Eligible residents must be at or below 80 percent of Area Median Income and meet other requirements.

Public pools open on May 26
