Soccer: Four DeKalb teams get first-round wins

The Tucker, Lakeside and Marist boys teams, and the Marist girls won first-round games May 1-3 in the state high school soccer playoffs.  The St. Pius boys and girls open the state playoffs tonight, May 4.

Tucker defeated South Paulding 5-1, Lakeside beat Alexander 3-1 and Marist shut out Pope 3-0 in the Class AAAA boys’ tournament. Chamblee was beaten by Kell 4-0 in AAAA and Stephenson lost in the first round of the AAAAA tournament 10-1 to Tift County. Druid Hills (8-6-2) lost its Class AAA opener to Columbus 7-6 on penalty kicks. The game was tied 0-0 after regulation.

Lucky Teah scored two goals for Tucker while Solomon Roberts, William Gomez and Manthe Nsukami each scored one.

The Marist girls defeated Alexander 10-0 on May 2 in the first round of the AAAA tournament. Liliana Rios scored two goals, and Claire Sullivan had a goal and an assist for the War Eagles, the No. 1 seed from Region 6-AAAA.

In other Class AAAA first-round girls’ games, Lakeside lost to Kell 1-0 (4-2 on penalty kicks), Chamblee lost to North Paulding 2-1 (3-0 on penalty kicks) and Dunwoody was blanked 9-0 by Pope.

St. Pius hosts a double-header tonight in the opening round of the Class AAA tournament. The girls play Central Carroll at 5:30 p.m. the boys play LaGrange at 7:30 p.m.

Lakeside (13-3-1) at McIntosh (16-2-1), TBA

Marist (12-7) at Forest Park (15-2), Twelve Oaks, 7:30 p.m.

 

Class AAAA girls, May 9

Starr’s Mill (7-11-1) at Marist (16-1), 6 p.m.
