Clarkston resident sentenced for child porn

Joseph Butler, 66, of Clarkston was sentenced this week for his involvement in the child pornography trade.

Butler, an employee at the U.S. Department of Education, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for collecting child pornography using his government computer, followed by five years of supervised release.

According to officials, Butler pleaded guilty in December 2011. U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said Butler used his work computer to download pornography from the Internet onto CD-ROMS, which he then took home.

In July 2011, federal agents executed a search warrant at Butler’s home, where they found CDs of child pornography along with boxes of children’s clothes, toys and a collection of self-authored stories that described in detail young children having sex with adults and animals.

Butler will be required to register as a sex offender in whatever community he resides in upon release from prison.
