County plans hydraulic control workshop

DeKalb County, in conjunction with the Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE), has conducted a feasibility study of Indian, Sugar, Intrenchment and Snapfinger creeks to formulate plans for hydraulic control measures.

A public workshop to discuss the plans is scheduled for March 6, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Decatur Library, 215 Sycamore St. in Decatur.

DeKalb County Infrastructure Group staff, along with ACOE representatives from Mobile, Ala., will present an overview of the feasibility study findings and tentative alternatives. Following the presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to visit display stations and ask questions. Comments from residents will also be solicited.

Leadership DeKalb adds open house for prospective members

Leadership DeKalb is holding an open house for prospective members of the next class of the community leadership training organization. The event will be held at Villa Christina at 4000 Summit Boulevard in Atlanta on Thursday, March 8, at 5:30 p.m.

The open house is hosted by Bob Voyles, principal and CEO of Seven Oaks Company LLC, who is a graduate of the Class of 1990.

Prospective members of the Class of 2013 will have the opportunity to network with community leaders and graduates of the program. A panel discussion with selected corporate leaders will follow at 6 p.m. that will offer information about the requirements of the 10-month training program.

Another open house will take place on Tuesday, March 6, at DeKalb Medical Center at Hillandale at 5900 Hillandale Drive in Lithonia.

Candidates for the Class of 2013 must either live or work in DeKalb County. Applications must be submitted to the Leadership DeKalb office by Monday, March 19. The Leadership DeKalb Program is a 10-month leadership development course where DeKalb County leaders are educated on issues facing DeKalb County. 

Porter Sanford Center to present First Fridays Jazz series

The Porter Sanford Center in Decatur will feature live jazz by Casuell and the Soul Kitchen on March 2, 6-9 p.m.

The performance is part of the center’s First Fridays Jazz and Networking series to benefit the Porter Sanford Arts Foundation. The series will run through July 6.

The Porter Sanford Center is located at 3181 Rainbow Drive in Decatur.
