Jury selection begins today in Dunwoody murder trial

Jury selection begins on Feb. 13 and is expected to last most of the week for the trial of Hemy Neuman, accused of the Nov. 18, 2010, killing of Russell Jay “Rusty” Sneiderman, a Dunwoody entrepreneur, husband and father of two young children—a son and a daughter.

Sneiderman was shot multiple times after he dropped off his 2-year-old son at Dunwoody Prep daycare on Chamblee-Dunwoody Road. He was pronounced dead after being transported to Atlanta Medical Center.

Decatur man arrested after two-hour SWAT standoff on Feb. 10

A suspect charged with aggravated assault held DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputies at bay for two hours on Feb. 10 as he barricaded himself in the home of a relative at 2937 Duncan Road.

Monte Carter, 31, refused to come out of the Decatur home when fugitive squad members, responding to a tip, knocked on the front and rear doors at 8 a.m.  The SWAT team and special negotiators were called in at 9:50 a.m.

Negotiators established phone contact with Carter and he was talked out of the home without incident at 10:15 a.m.

Carter will be charged with two counts of aggravated assault, reckless conduct, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and criminal damage to property.  The charges stem from a Sept. 10, 2011, incident at 4145 Deacon Lane in which Carter is accused of shooting into a crowd of seven people, striking one person in the leg and shattering a car window.
