Budget town hall meeting set for Jan. 25
DeKalb County Commissioner Lee May will have a budget town hall meeting for county residents to express their opinions concerning the budget. The meeting will be Wednesday, Jan. 25, 6:30 p.m., at the Lou Walker Senior Center. May will present an overview of the budget, highlighting significant cuts and increases in spending, while explaining what that could mean to county services. May plans to highlight the budget and its relation to major issues, including public safety, infrastructure projects, sanitation and economic development. The Lou Walker Senior Center is at 2538 Panola Road in Lithonia.
Burglaries prompt meeting in Avondale Estates
The Avondale Estates Police Department and Avondale Estates Neighborhood Watch program is sponsoring a free training session for area residents Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m. The topics are “How to Correctly Identify Suspicious Persons” and “How and When to Call 911.” The 45-minute session will be held in the courtroom of the Avondale Estates City Hall. The session was prompted by four burglaries over the past 10 days in the city. Mayor Ed Rieker and Police Chief Gary Broden will be at the meeting to answer residents’ questions. They will provide residents with an update on the burglaries and offer tips on how to prevent future burglaries.
