Store clerk shot and killed in south DeKalb

A clerk was shot and killed on Monday night during an apparent robbery at a convenience store off Cedar Grove Road.

According to DeKalb County Police, the incident occurred at a BP gas station and convenience store at approximately 11:30 p.m.

Police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said the 39-year-old victim was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital after being shot in the chest, he later died of his injuries.

“Two suspects entered the location on 2136 Cedar Grove Road,” Parish said. “At some point one of the men stole an undetermined amount of money from behind the counter.”

Parish said the clerk then followed the men outside and confronted one of the suspects.

“At this point the clerk was shot in the parking lot,” Parish said. She said there were surveillance cameras at the location and detectives are currently reviewing tapes to determine what details of the incident was captured on camera.

Parish said a second employee in a cooler in the back of the store restocking drinks was uninjured. She said at this point there was no description of the suspects and the store had no customers when the incident occurred.

Police have yet to release the name of the victim.

Arrests made in killing at motel

DeKalb County Police have arrested two men in connection with a man found dead Jan. 8 at the Super 8 motel on Lawrenceville Highway in Tucker. Darrius Aderhold, 21, and Jonathan Ray, 19, were arrested Jan. 9 and each is charged with murder, according to police. There is a third suspect but no other arrests have been made, according to reports. A maid cleaning a room at the motel found the body, according to police, who have not released the victim’s identity.
