“I didn’t realize that there are people that specialize in just blogging about pets,” said Denise Quashie.
Brookhaven resident Quashie filled a void in the pet blogging world when she created the BarkWorld Expo 2009.
Before BarkWorld there was nothing like this, “[at other conferences] no one was talking about pet blogging or pet social media,” Quasie said.
BarkWorld Expo will be held at the Loews Atlanta Hotel, 1065 Peachtree St., Atlanta, Sept. 29 – Oct.1. To attend, visit www.barkworldexpo.com The three-day, pet focused social media conference is fully supported by sponsors such as PETCO, Subaru, Nylabone, bing, Yahoo and Apartment Guide.
Last year, there were 250 attendees, and 60 percent of last year’s attendances were from outside the Atlanta area. Quashie said there were people from Canada, Trinidad and Israel. She credits the attendance to social media. All marketing was done via social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
The conference will offer attendees a variety of classes and hands-on workshops on subjects such as pet blogging, pet photography and general pet education, and will feature a number of guest speakers such as Victoria Stilwell, star of It’s Me or the Dog, and Ted Rheingold, CEO and founder Dogster, Inc.
One unique feature of the conference is Social Petworking, in which a panel will give information to bloggers and social networkers on pitching their blog to sponsors and vendors. Quashie also arranged an invite-only session in which she puts pet bloggers in direct contact with pet product vendors.
But, BarkWorld is not only for those with established pet blogs. Pet parents wanting to learn about starting their own pet centric blog are encouraged to attend as well.
“Anyone that has a love for pets and want to see what socially aware pet parents are doing online should attend,” said Quashie.
And yes, pets are welcome.
