Pittman elected mayor of Doraville

Donna Pittman

Former Doraville City Councilwoman Donna Pittman won a runoff election on July 19 to become the city’s new mayor.

Pittman, who served as acting mayor for a few months until resigning to run for the mayor’s position, said she is elated about the opportunity to move the city forward.

Approximately 550 Doraville voters went to the polls and Pittman earned 52.8 percent of the votes while political rookie Carol Gilman received 47.2 percent. Gilman spent 30 years in the business world in accounting, auditing, banking, internal consulting and business consulting before retiring a few years ago.

Doraville held the election to fill the remaining term of former mayor Ray Jenkins who died in February.

Because Pittman’s term expires at the end of the year, she will be up for re-election in November.

Donna,
Way to go!! Wow, you won the election without mudslinging. I wonder what Marlene thinks about the outcome? She ought to just move! I guess Ms. Gillman has figured out you dont need her in your corner to win. Now it is time to get to work and make sure the employees are taking care of.Good Luck! Stop crying Marlene.

Now that you're mayor let's really get serious about recycling. A resident of Gwinett County wrote to the AJC last week the their neighborhoods are cleamer since they have a plan in place that encourages more recycling and reduces trash on the roadways and streets. National statistics show that a conservative estimate of 56% of the household waste is available for further processing..

That's why residents of Doraville need two carts with wheels instead of a dinky little tub for recyclables. To offset the cost of the additional carts the recyclables could be picked up bi-weekly saving manpower, gas, truck expense, etc.
