Ann Kimbrough, liaison for CEO Vernon Jones for the past five years, made it official April 25 that she is running for the county’s top office.
Kimbrough, 50, a 25-year resident of the county, is a former award-winning business writer for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Atlanta Business Chronicle. She was also a public relations professor at Florida A&M University and at Clark Atlanta University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree.
“I’ve been doing the job, I know the executive side,” said Kimbrough. “This county deserves a person who can hit the ground running.”
Touting the accomplishments of the Jones’ administration in the building of sidewalks, the acquisition of green space, technology upgrades and more women in leadership roles, Kimbrough said she would continue the policies of the past eight years.
“As CEO, I will build upon the accomplishments of my predecessor and continue to move this county forward.”
She joins a crowded field that includes Joe Bembry, Commissioner Burrell Ellis, Tracey McMeen, former state Sen. Steen Miles, Angela Scott Miller, Calvin Sims and state Rep. Stan Watson.
Although she has never held elected office, Kimbrough joked it meant she has “a perfect public record.”
“What we need is a tactician,” said Kimbrough on a more serious note. “Not another politician.”
