DeKalb County athletes volunteer at Dunaire Elementary field day
Twenty-five DeKalb County athletes volunteered to help Dunaire Elementary School put on its annual field day for the students on May 15 and 18.
DeKalb County Director of Athletics Ron Sebree asked for the help of the athletes and volunteers representing Avondale, Cedar Grove, Chamblee, Clarkston, Druid Hills, Martin Luther King Jr., Redan, Towers, and Tucker High Schools responded.
“This was a good opportunity for the older athletes to help the younger kids and give them someone to look up to as they grow up,” Sebree said. “Giving back and setting the kind of example they did by helping out with the field day shows the kind of character we want all our athletes to have as they represent DeKalb County in high school and as they move on to college and the business world.”
The students participated in various games and competitions including the 50- and 100-yard dashes, spoon race, three-legged race, basketball relay, sack race and tug-of-war throughout the two-day event.
A special appearance was made on Friday by Pounce, the Georgia State University Panther mascot, who spent time mingling and playing with the youngsters with an occasional break for photos that featured big smiles from the students.
