DeKalb County Police arrested a man Dec. 31 in connection with the Sept. 16 home invasion shooting death of a 7-year-old boy in south DeKalb.
Jarvis Marquez Gibson, 24, who went voluntarily to police headquarters for questioning on Dec. 31, was taken into custody and charged with the murder of Timothy Johnson Jr., who was staying with his grandfather on Toney Drive. Gibson was also charged with aggravated assault and burglary.
Investigators, who were part of a five-member team, said they believe Gibson was one of the shooters who broke into a home and shot two children.
Johnson’s sister, Alexus Sheppard, 15, was critically wounded in the incident. Sheppard was scheduled to testify the next day about a home invasion that had occurred to her family at their home in Stone Mountain in 2006.
It led to speculation that the shootings were revenge killings to intimidate witnesses.
On Dec. 11, Willie Kelsey, 29, was arrested and charged in connection with the case. At the time, Police Chief Terrell Bolton called Kelsey “a monster among us.”
“And thank God we got this monster off the streets,” Bolton said Dec. 11. “We’re still seeking additional people of interest in this case.”
Police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said the investigation is ongoing.
