With no pads or helmets on a hot steamy Saturday, DeKalb County high school football players indulged in an old-school game of two-hand touch.
More than 100 high school athletes from six Georgia counties participated in the NFL’s national seven-on-seven tournament on June 20 at DeKalb County’s Hallford Stadium.
Since 2001, the NFL’s high school players development program has taught life skills and character development and encouraged excellence in the classroom and community.
DeKalb County was represented by Cedar Grove High and Miller Grove High. The tournament teaches specific skills training and life skills that can be used on and off the field. The Saturday tournament was a double elimination.
Other schools participating were Calhoun County, Grady, North Cobb and North Gwinnett.
“It feels good to play in this year’s seven-on-seven tournament game,” said Cedar Grove football player Desi Banks. “I hope our players get consistent and improve their game,” said Cedar Grove head coach Ray Bonner. Cedar Grove and Miller Grove both came up short in this year’s tournament.
North Cobb won the seven-on-seven tournament and will represent the Atlanta Falcons and Georgia in Minneapolis, Minn., July 9-12 for the NFL’s national tournament.
